# What is the DeSo Cryptocurrency?

$Deso is the native cryptocurrency of the DeSo blockchain. The currency is integrated within the chain and is utilized in the same way that other cryptocurrencies like Ethereum and Bitcoin are. If you make an account on any DeSo node, you are in the process creating a cryptowallet for the $Deso cryptocoin.

To be able to send or receive diamonds (tips) on apps or websites that run on the DeSo blockchain you need to have $Deso in your cryptowallet, and in order to engage on any DeSo node, you will also require a very small amount of $DeSo in order to pay for the fees. Nodes can set their own transaction fees for caring out these transactions and running a node. These fees are usually small fractions of a penny.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://help.nftz.zone/beginners-guide/users-guide/welcome/what-is-the-deso-cryptocurrency.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
